The Wounds Within: Suicide in the Military

Coleman Bean served two tours of duty in Iraq, witnessing horrors that stayed with him at home.  On Sept. 6, 2008, he shot himself in the head. His death is part of an accelerating trend that has sent tremors throughout the U.S. military, alarming the most senior officers and highlighting the strain on America’s fighting men and women after eight years of uninterrupted war.
